On Mount Vulture, an extinct volcano in the remote interior of Basilicata, Aglianico finds one of its most impressive expressions. Giovanna Paternoster represents the fourth generation of a family that has been farming this land for over a century, working three hectares of organic vines at 540 meters in the historic Macarico sub-zone, nestled between two ancient lava flows. The pyroclastic rock and iron-rich clay beneath give the wine mineral depth and ephemeral elegance. Twelve months in French oak with periodic lees stirring add structure and texture that accentuate the dynamic character of this wine.
